SHARON LYNN DAKE

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Sharon Lynn Dake passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Mary Immaculate Hospital. Sharon was a resident of Newport News for the past 45 years. She was born in Michigan and raised in Keyser, WV. Sharon was a RN for over 40 years at CHKD in Norfolk working in the ER. She was always willing to help anyone and everyone in need and made a career out of it- her heart was pure. She loved the simple things in life like spending time with her children and grandkids, getting pedicures and sunbathing on her deck. Going out to eat was always a favorite, although she ate very little; she would always leave the restaurant with leftovers. When she wasn’t with her grandkids, you could find her relaxing at home watching TV or reading books.

Nothing was more important to Sharon than her family.  She treasured her children and grandkids and embraced every moment with them.  Sharon was tiny but mighty!  She is survived by her devoted daughters, Shannon and Jessie Dake; her five loving grandkids, Matthew Dake, Nevaeh Brown, Kamilah Brown, Amina Jahic, Ayven Jahic; her mother, Betty Dake; her siblings, Karen Dake, Tony Dake, Dean Dake and Lolly Dake and her nieces and nephews, Jeremy Dake, Ray Stockwell and Taylor Dake as well as other extended family.

The family would like to thank Sharon’s CHKD family for all their love and support through this trying time.

A Memorial Service will take place at a later date once the COVID-19 mandate for social gatherings has ended. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.

Sharon was a tough teacher , no nonsense but effective
She was a private person but openly shared about her Girls. She taught me much about being a NICU nurse back in the late 80’s. I was sad to hear if this untimely loss. Rest In Peace Sharon and my condolences to her family.

I met Sharon in 1996 in the ED when I worked as a clerical associate. While there, Sharon was always so encouraging and willing to teach me anything I wanted to know, and I enjoyed my conversations with her. After transferring in 1998, I would run across her every few years. The last time I saw her was in the employee garage, and as always, it was such a pleasure. My heart is broken because I am just learning of her passing, but I am more thankful to have had the chance to work with such a beautiful person. I will sincerely miss her, and though these are such trying times, may the family find strength each day.

Sharon was also my teacher when I started work at CHKD many years ago. I learned so much from her. She was very compassionate. I will miss you, Sharon.

Quoting Marianna Cantwell:
Sharon was my teacher when I started my work at CHKD over 19 years ago. Sharon was strict but compassionate and always available to answer questions. That umbilical cord of teacher:student stretched far and when I became the Director of the ED, Sharon continued to be a big support to me. She was missed once I moved away and now will remain in my heart! Love you always Sharon ❤️

Shannon and Jessie
My heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your Mother.
