Serving the Community Since 1960

Memorial Service: 12 noon, Friday, March 5, 2021

Location: Weymouth Funeral Home

Corey Nevada Burrell, was born in 1969 at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, VA to Helena G. Burrell and the late Willie E. Burrell.  Corey entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

Corey graduated from Smithfield High School where his activities included playing on the Junior Varsity Basketball Team and playing trombone in the Smithfield High School Marching Band.  He continued to play trombone at Bethune Cookman College before serving in the United States Army.  Upon leaving the Army, Corey opened his first barbershop, Kutz Plus in Smithfield.  Corey’s desire to help people led him to obtain his license as a Practical Nurse.   In 1999, while working as an LPN at the Regional Jail in Sussex County, Corey met and married Sharon Jackson.  They shared a love for nursing and remained married until her transition in 2019.  Upon retiring from nursing, Corey started his own transportation company, Restoration Transportation Service, as a licensed CDL Owner Operator.

Corey was a practical joker; always looking to make you laugh.  He loved life and tried his best to make sure you loved life too.  Corey was always there to give a hand up to those who needed him.  You could count on Corey for an encouraging word and some sound advice. He had a smile that could light up a room.  He was a man of faith, who loved his family and could be counted on to go the extra mile….and then some for a friend.

Corey leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lisa Burrell of Smithfield, VA; his mother, Helena Urquhart of Smithfield, VA; two daughters, Keiya Burrell of Dayton, OH and Courtney Eure of Hampton, VA; one granddaughter, Kaidence Dickerson of Dayton, OH; one grandson, Ares Madison of Hampton, VA; his brother, Dwayne Burrell of Richmond, VA; his brother-in-law, Anthony Mapp of Richmond, VA; several aunts and uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 12 Noon at Weymouth Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19, seating will be limited. Masks and social distancing will be required. The Service will live streamed through Keiya Burrell's facebook page.
