James “Eddie” Edwin Carroll, 86, gained his heavenly wings on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his home.  He was born in Newport News on February 12, 1934 to the late John and Virginia Carroll. He is now reunited with his wife, Jeanette Phillips Carroll. Eddie, also known as “Fast Eddie” graduated from Newport News High School in 1952 and went to work at Newport News Shipyard, taking leave in 1956 to join the United States Air Force for 4 years as a A1C Radio Mechanic and returning to the Shipyard where he retired in 2004 as a Master Electrician with 52 years of employment. Many roller skaters will remember him as a floor guard at Peninsula Skating Center in the late 70’s to late 80’s. He was a longtime member of Warwick Moose Lodge #1711.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette Phillips Carroll; his parents, John and Virginia Carroll; sisters, Frances Tudge and Gracie Ferguson and his brother, John Robert “Bobby” Carroll. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Bonnie McPherson (Mac) and Tracie Tysinger (Kevin) and his son, James “Chris” Carroll; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Krentel (Justin), Trevor Tysinger, Christian (CJ) Tysinger and Shelby Carroll; and 1 great-granddaughter, Aubrey Krentel.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Masks are required before entering the building as well as social distancing. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Peninsula Memorial Park by Pastor Jeff Cannon. Please enter at the Nettles Drive gate. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association in Eddie’s name. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
