John Frank Massey, 95, born in Seven Springs, NC, completed a life well lived on Saturday, May 22, 2021. He was a fourth-generation farmer who left his home and began working at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company at 16 years old. His devotion to family would take him back to North Carolina to tend tobacco crops supporting his younger sisters and brothers, but he eventually settled in Hampton, VA for over 30 years before moving to Williamsburg, VA. He retired from NNSDC after 40 years of service. Frank spent many years of his retirement enjoying his dogs, gardening, and helping others with anything from installing HVAC systems, home repairs, or building wood burning stoves, and log-splitters. Frank lived life on life’s terms; never questioning why a mountain was before him, only focusing on how to navigate and overcome it. He lived life with a firm personal code and unwavering values, typically giving more than he took from the world. Without complaint or self-pity, he provided 24/7 love and care to his beloved wife for several years during her struggle with Alzheimers; just as he had for his son, Wayne, during his battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Elizabeth Hill Massey, and darling son, Frank Wayne Massey. Once again, they are walking hand-in-hand forever together. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Luther Edwin and Essie Ruffin Massey; brothers Henry, Walter, Raymond, Robert, and Clarence and sister, Lena Massey Stallings Huskey.

Frank completed a life of devotion, generosity, courage, and purpose. After a brave fight with Congestive Heart Failure and Kidney Disease, he left an example of how to die bravely with dignity and continued love for those around him. He leaves an enduring love strong enough to forever embrace his family: daughter, Suanne Massey and Karen Russell, Andrea Oliver; sisters, Zelphia Massey Tice and Norma Massey Jackson; nieces, Amanda Jackson, Jackie Lou Perry (Phil), Yvonne Stallings Metzdorf (Jerry), Janie Massey, Eva Jackson Grimes; nephews, Robert Massey, Jr., Carl and James Massey (Carla), Allen Massey (Merle), Dennis Tice (Stacey) and Joseph Stallings. His loving embrace and warm smile are imprinted on the hearts of all who loved him. He will be forever missed and never forgotten by those left to cherish his precious memory.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., on Wedensday, May 26, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral home.
