John Wayne Register, Sr, passed away peacefully Monday, April 26, 2021 at home.  He followed in his dad’s footsteps by working at the Newport News Shipyard.  At 26, he was the owner of the Sunoco Service Station in Hidenwood for 17 years.  His next 25 years was spent as a commercial fisherman going after clams.  He even built and used his own Chesapeake Bay Deadrise, “Sparkey”.  As a retiree he enjoyed helping his son, Billy, in his lawn care business.  He was an especially thankful, caring, helpful and cheerful person and we will miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Register and by his oldest son, John, Jr.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy; daughter-in-law, Peggy; sons, James (Sandra) and Billy (Andrea); grandson, John III; granddaughters, Kimberley and Kristen; great-granddaughter, Madison Hope; his brother, Harry Sr; sisters, Hilda and Brenda and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Peninsula Memorial Park.  Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
