Celebration of Life at a later date

Nancy Post Heinbach of Newport News, 79, transitioned peacefully on December 21, 2020. She loved Christmas and her faith. Her passing on the 21st of December was spiritually appropriate given the winter solstice and the rare conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn nicknamed, “The Christmas Star.” This rare Christmas Star was a beautiful beacon of light to show her the path to her eternal home.  Nancy was with family physically and virtually throughout her journey – a special thank you to the family of caregivers at Magnolia Manor in Smithfield who provided comfort, compassion, and dignity as she transitioned to her eternal rest.

Nancy was born in Richmond, VA. She was a graduate of Warwick High School in Newport News, Class of 1959.  She worked many years for the City of Newport News, retiring from the Department of Planning and Development. She loved her profession and co-workers.  She was adept in word processing and became the department’s leading advisor and mentor in word processing and document drafting – some said she was a bit of a “guru.” Additionally, she received the endearing nickname of “Ouiser” from a special co-worker and friend. Anyone familiar with the movie Steel Magnolias knows exactly what this means. “Nancy, you know we love you more than our luggage.”

A woman of multiple talents, she played the piano and produced beautiful needlepoint work. For the past couple of decades she has touched, amazed, and inspired people with the heartfelt beautiful hand-made cards she loved to create. They are treasures.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Clair Heinbach; her parents, James and Dorothy Post, Sr;  brother, James Selden Post, Jr, and her beloved nephew, Steve Post, who loved and cared for her. She is survived by her daughter, Annette Bene (Steve); her son, George Alie; granddaughter, Gennifer Alie; grandsons, Rafe and Galen Bene; special “grandchildren”, Amanda and Noah Clevinger; nephews, Jimmy Post; great-niece and nephew, Shannon and Selden; Scott Post (Susan) and great-nephew and niece, Scotty and Joanna.

The family will hold a private graveside service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held when we can all gather safely.

Nancy loved her family at First Baptist Church of Newport News and her King’s Daughters’ Sunday School Class who have stayed in touch with her. She also loved her dogs and her cats dearly. We ask no flowers, please honor Nancy’s memory through donations to the First Baptist Church of Newport News Food Pantry, The Humane Society or an animal rescue organization of your choice in her name. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
